This has been my primary long range
rifle since 1996. That year I traded in my Winchester
Model 70 Sporter LT .300 WinMag and moved up to the
Sendero for a serious tack-driver. I was planning to be
shooting targets at tactical ranges more than hunting, so
it was a perfect fit. I installed a Leupold Tactical 4.5 x
14 power MilDot scope with Leupold rings and bases. It has
a Harris bipod and a Turner Military Sling, and an Eagle
Industries suede leather cheekpiece. You'll notice the
rubber bands on the bipod, which serve to quiet the
springs when deploying the bipod legs and can be used to
attach natural camouflage in the field.
I had Matt at Matt's 10X do a trigger
job on the rifle, set to a very crisp 4.2 pounds.
The 26" heavy-profile barrel sports
a spherical concave muzzle crown. The HS Precision Kevlar
aramid fiber and graphite composite synthetic stock houses
a full-length aluminum bedding block that leaves the
barrel completely free-floating.
The preferred ammunition in this rifle
is Federal Premium 200-grain Sierra Game King Boattails,
which deliver sub minute of angle performance. It will
hold groups inside a tennis ball out to 350 yards. The
furthest I have fired it successfully is 1100 yards, from
one clearcut to another at a section of plywood I set up.
It held all ten shots in a 4-foot group, strung
horizontally from the slight wind that day.
I have taken three whitetails with it,
one at 225 yards, one at 250 yards, and my 2003 buck
at 450 yards. All three bucks literally dropped in their
tracks with a proper shot placement.
