The US government has a new
website, http://www.ready.gov. Yes, the duct tape
and plastic sheeting advisory website, heh heh.
It's fun to make fun of, and basically
it is another attempt at "guvmint" scare mongering in the style of the old "duck and
cover" advice after WWII in the 50's. They want you "sheeple" to
think that Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) Warfare can be
controlled with a good supply of 4-mil polyethylene sheeting and
some "home defense grade" $1.33-a-roll
made-in-China Wal-Mart duct tape. Well, they may have a
point, but if you follow their advice in a real attack,
you will probably not survive.
If you want to survive an NBC attack, I
will advise you to buy several military-grade radiation
dosimeters and a solid state radiation survey meter. Do
not buy a Geiger Counter, as romantic as a Geiger counter
is with its little clicks and clacks of detecting radioisotopes.
They are neat in movies, but are useless in a massive
radiation situation when they become saturated, and will
give false readings of normal background radiation when it
is actually way too "hot" to be around. They
will kill you if you don't know how to use them. Homeland
